Healing Through Our God-given Senses
Sight – Touch – Smell – Hearing – Taste – Spirit
Session 1 – April 13 : Linda Cherek – Caring for Your Grieving Heart
Grief is a normal response to loss. There is no preparation for it and understanding what is normal in grief is caring for your grieving heart. Family culture, your spiritual life, and other factors affecting your grief journey will be discussed with care and compassion.
Session 2 – April 20 : Amy Konkoly – Intentional Creativity Guide and Coach
In this session, you’ll be invited to explore where you are in your grief journey through simple creative reflection. No art experience is needed – just curiosity. Through guided prompts and creative relaxation, you may find a little more space to breathe, reflect, and listen inward. You will gain some gentle insight in a supportive environment.
Session 3 – April 27 : Tanya Brown – Author of I See You in the Sunset
Tanya Brown returns to St. Hubert to share her story about her late husband’s cancer journey, and how writing I See You in the Sunset helped her heal. Along with that, Tanya will share the benefits of essential oils that not only smell great, but can help improve your health and mood.
Session 4 – May 4 : Mark Youngquist – Author of My Joy Journey With Amy
With the encouragement of friends and family, Mark authored a book, My Joy Journey With Amy. Not meant to be a How to Manual for grief, Mark hopes others may find comfort and inspiration in this shared experience, from grief to healing.
Session 5 – May 11 : Kathy Nelson – Retired Music Therapist
Having been a Music Therapist for over 30 years, Kathy will play and share how she used music to help her heal from her own grief of losing a daughter and her parents.
Session 6 – May 18 : Susan Smith – Helping Paws Demo Coordinator
As Demo Coordinator for Helping Paws for over 30 years, Susan travels with Humphrey to share her personal story and show the benefits of service dogs and volunteer opportunities for people who want the joy that comes from volunteering with Golden Retrievers.
Session Overview
The Southwest Grief Coalition creates a welcoming space for people to receive faithful care and support while grieving the loss of loved ones. This includes casual connecting time with appetizers or light fare. This is followed by a 30-minute presentation by a grief counselor or person with experience in grief support who provides practical assistance to the participants. The presenter also stimulates conversation in small groups that follow the presentation.
There is no cost to participate. Church affiliation is not required.
