First Sacrament Preparation (Grade 2)

The typical age for children to receive their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is during second grade. Reconciliation (Confession) is the Sacrament in which God’s mercy and forgiveness reconciles the sinner with God, and also with the Church and Christ’s body. Children must receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before First Eucharist, when they unite in Holy Communion with Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time.

Sacrament preparation is a journey that we take with parents and children. In addition to the weekly Wednesday formation, children and parents also participate in the following as part of the preparation:

  • Parent meeting (October)
  • Parent and child to attend scheduled retreats for First Reconciliation (January) and First Eucharist (April)
  • First Reconciliation Service (February)
  • First Eucharist Mass (April/May)

Fee: $85 for the Wednesday program, plus $140 for Sacrament preparation.

Your child’s preparation session takes place at different times depending on where you go to school and grade.

  • Students enrolled in second grade at St. Hubert Catholic School will receive their formation during school as part of their religion class.
  • Children enrolled second grade at other schools will receive their formation on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 PM at the parish.
  • If your child is in grades three and up and catching up on First Sacraments either at St. Hubert Catholic School or another school, he/she will need to participate in our Wednesday evening weekly formation sessions from 6:30-7:30 PM at the parish.

Regardless of when students receive their formation, there are aspects of the Sacrament preparation (such as retreats) that children and parents must participate in addition to the weekly formation.

Our Elementary programs are seeking catechists, room assistants, substitutes, hall monitors and background support!
