Early Childhood: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Pre-K to Kindergarten (Ages 3-6)

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 will be offered at St. Hubert in the upcoming year. It is for children three years old through kindergarten. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a method of religious formation drawn from the Montessori form of education. This method is rooted in Sacred Scripture, the tradition, and the Liturgy. The religious values of contemplation, enjoyment of God, and personal relationship are fostered in the child in a prepared environment called the Atrium.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Future Program)

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is for children ages 4-7 during most of our 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM Masses. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a formation ministry that helps our youngest parishioners dive into the Sunday Gospel in a way that is easy for them to understand. How Children’s Liturgy of the Word works is that children ages 4-7 will be invited to join our catechists in a separate space during the Liturgy of the Word portion of the Mass. During this brief time, the children will hear a translation of Gospel that is written for their age, hear a reflection that is easier for them to grasp, and sing a song or do an activity that reiterates the Gospel message. This ministry is being offered to help children with a special formation that helps them grow in appreciation and reverence for God’s Word, as well as to give parents an opportunity to focus on the Liturgy of the Word in a deeper way during the Mass.

We are seeking several volunteers ages 21 and older to help us with this ministry. Volunteer support may include teaching or preparing the Gospel reflection and activities, or simply helping with general classroom management. Weekly commitment to this volunteer role can be 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. All volunteers must complete E3 certification through the Safe Environment Training program. Please contact Liz Pham at liz.pham@sthubert.org or Sara Svenby at sara.svenby@sthubert to inquire about volunteering.
